The 9th of February History Calendar

On this day 154 years ago in 1870, the Stather built schooner was lost in collision with an unknown vessel in the Brisol Channel. The Swansea regisered ship was launched only five months previous.

On this day 135 years ago in 1889 the Stather built Grimsby fishing smack GY11, was wrecked in severe gales in the North Sea losing all seven hands. The dandy rigged vessel was one of seven Grimsby smacks lost in the storm, which inspired the poem Three Score and Ten.
