The 3rd of October History Calendar

125 years ago in 1895 the Stather built smack H917, foundered in the North Sea 50 miles SE of Spurn Point after suffering a serious leak. The crew of five got safely onto the smack Hamburg and were brought home.

On this day 102 years ago in 1918 WWI took another life from the Burton Parish. Private of the 1st Battalion, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, died in Northern France. Son of John Young Shaw and Mary J. Shaw, of New Row, Thealby.
