On this day 100 years ago in 1918 Lance Corporal Alfred Stanley Bowers of the Seaforth Highlanders died aged 26.
Son of George and Martha Bowers of Burton Stather.
On this day 122 years ago in 1896, the Stather built smack Lincolnshire Lass (H661) was lost after a collision with the smack Joseh & Sarah of Grimsby.
The collision was at about 9:30am, efforts were made with the pumps but she had to be abandoned by 4pm.
The crew were brought back to Hull on the ST Jamaica.
On this day 124 years ago in 1894, Alfred Francis, 4th hand on the Stather built smack Bacchante drowned after faling overboard due to sudden lurching of the vessel.
Efforts were made to save him, but his oilskins came up over his arms and he could not grasp the ropes thrown.
