The 19th of June History Calendar
On this day 142 years ago in 1876, the Stather built schooner Knysna Belle
was wrecked in Table Bay, South Africa.
She was under the command of Captain Kramer, all the crew survived.
On this day 200 years ago in 1818, the steam packet New British Queen
was launched at Burton Stather for Simpson and Bell of Gainsborough.
This was the first steam ship built at the yard.
