DD Tanks on Utah Beach

D-Day +73

was on this day 73 years ago in 1944, when allied forces invaded the German occupied Normandy coast. This was the largest seaborne invasion in history and saw the first combat deployment of the Duplex Drive Amphibious Tanks. The DD Tanks had mixed success in the operation, with many sunk at the beaches to the west where the sea was rougher. However at the calmer eastern beaches, the tanks proved to be an effective weapon for amphibious assault.
