A Sloop

On this day 135 years ago in 1885, the sloop was launched at Burton Stather for J Pickering and Son of Crowle. She was built to carry goods between Crowle and Hull.

In 1893, 127 years ago, Frank Hornby, deckhand on the Stather built fishing smack was drowned at sea when the mizzen boom un-shipped as the vessel gibed. When the trawl was hauled, his body was found in the net.
